Day 72: Lies, and the Lying Liars at Weather.com
I wake up early and the sky was a thick gray. The weather report was predicting a steady rain all day, but it had not started yet. I talk to Jim and he's cool with me staying another day. I call my parents and complain about the weather.
About 11am, I check the weather report, and TODAY's weather has been downgraded to a pretty mild status. A few showers, little wind, etc BUT TOMORROW has been upgraded to Thunderstorms, wind and double today's rain. Dammit! This is really irritating. Tomorrow is a 90 mile day with very few services on the way; maybe a gas station around the half way point. Jim offered to give me a ride to Missoula so I can ride a more Southern route directly into Portland, but I'm pretty determined to ride through the Northern Cascades if at all possible.
It starts to rain. I pack up my camping gear and head out to the UPS Store to ship it off to Allison. But when I get to the store, I just can't bring myself to get rid of it. I stand around outside the store for a half hour, and then ultimately decide to keep the gear. What's an extra 7 lbs anyways? I run to the Mega Thrift Store and find a lot of cool clothes, but nothing I'd want to lug around for the next 2 months. I go back to Jim's and the day continues to get warmer and dryer. The sun comes out later in the afternoon. So frustrating. Maybe tomorrow will be this mild as well?
Took a nap, and then got dinner with Jim. Came home and psyched myself up for riding in the rain tomorrow. Hopefully it's not too miserable. I'll let you know how it is.
