Day 70: Coney Island Community College. Go Whitefish!

I had planned on doing nothing all day, and besides hobbling down to the front desk and requesting another day of lodging, I did a pretty good job. I watched Newt Gingrich on George Stephanopoulos’ TV show, and it’s pretty funny how much more sincere and honest he is now that he’s ONE day removed from running for President. He’s still got a sinister Mussolini streak in him, but at least he’s now willing to answer questions. I still hate McCain, but every percentage point he loses makes him a little cooler, and a little more honest. Someday maybe people will realize how great Dennis Kucinich is.

So around 1pm, I opened the blinds and saw what a gorgeous day it was outside… Damn, maybe I should have taken tomorrow off. So I got dressed and went off to do some sightseeing on my bike. This sure is a neat little town. I go to the lake, and I get some breakfast. I was gonna get a haircut, but the place is closed, and I’m thinking of growing out the hair anyways. I change my tire/tube, I adjust my brakes, true up my back wheel a bit, clean the chain, and take the bike out for a test ride.

I start planning my route for these last 2 weeks. I think I’m going to stray off the ACA route a bit. Tomorrow I am going to ride down to Kalispell, and then take Hwy 2 to Libby the next day. I’d like to see Kalispell, and also it would allow me to avoid the hilly stretch between Eureka and Libby. Then once I get to Washington, I am going to ride through Spokane and through the Columbia Basin, and then up to Winthrop where I’m hoping to stay with my Uncle Rob before cutting through the Northern Cascades (back on the ACA route). That’s the plan. Its 12 days of riding (a day off in Winthrop – Rob willing). But I need to make sure to pass through the Cascades during a warm stretch; it could get tricky otherwise. Tomorrow is another ridiculously easy day, so I can sleep in and run a few errands. I’m shipping off another package of stuff; still unsure if my tent/sleeping bag will be amongst those things I am shipping to Los Angeles.

I was going to write a really long post that focused on some realizations and whatnot, but I got carried away with other stuff and now I’m tired. Maybe tomorrow. Goodnight Whitefish!
